Jean Valjean (aka Beth Garber) is a recent addition to San Francisco, previously from Vancouver. I had met her a year or two ago when she was helping her friend move to SF, and then re-met her through IMBS performer Jason Perry Stevens at a Songwriter's Collective meeting, about 5 months ago and she had just moved to SF! After she performed at song at the meeting, I immediately invited her to perform in my bedroom.

Suffice it to say I was a bit enamored with Miss Garber and her music. Her voice is classically beautiful and yet sparse throughout this song, with her guitar string plucking between her words. Her diverse taste in music (listen to her interview below) does appear in her song as well, if ever so subtle, from Joni Mitchell to the many female hip hop artists she grew up listening to, as well as her recent favorite Son Lux.

She's beginning to play some shows in SF, recently with Jason Perry Stevens and Flying Childers. Right now though she is focusing on recording her first EP. Make sure to like her facebook page, and write encouraging words on her wall!
